Proof-of-Concept Build
Construction Phase - Week 2
28 August to 03 September 2022
The task that occupied much of my time this week was adding filon to the outer plywood surface of exterior bulkheads eB5 and eB7.
After the filon was installed I then added the windows called for by our design and trimed over any seams in the filon.
Janet was busy painting all the bits and pieces needed to finish the exterior such as the hatch covers
that enclose the space above the floats where most of the plumbing infrastructure is held.
We were held up a bit this week because the aluminum trim we'd ordered was a little late due to a shortage of raw materials at the fabricators.
But we have most of it now so we're off and running on the filon task once again.
You can see an example of the blue aluminum trim covering the end plate of the after platform section.
When we get the rest of it, we can trim the seams under the windows here like you saw in the previous picture...
As well as the outside corner you can see still in need of finishing in this picture.
The RV style bed from last weeks update is now up in our cabin.
By design, all major appliance or pieces of furnature are lifted into place before the bulkheads are finished and lifted into place.
If you look closely, you can see our bed's head board though the after window.
Next week we'll work on getting the filon installed on the port (left) side of the houseboat.
We are now approaching the end of the construction phase.
September has arrived and we're on schedule to launch a second time for sea trials of all fitted systems before 1 October.
