Proof-of-Concept Build
Construction Phase - Week 2
11 September to 17 September 2022
Having worked with the exterior veneer for several weeks now, I was getting pretty fed up with installing filon by week nineteen.
The installation process is quite labour intensive (for a DIYer) and I'll be glad when it is finally done so I can get on with other remaining tasks.
After filon installation to an exterior wall section, the windows called for by our design must be installed and weather proofing trim must be placed over any filon seams.
Getting the aluminum trim is also taking longer than expected due to shortages of material.
Before the last (starboard forward) wall was raised and set into place, all major houseboat internal elements like the fridge, stove, cupboards etc were hoisted onboard .
Above you can see that the starboard side has been completed (except for the seam trim - ran out of material).
If you look closely you can see that the propane stove has been placed in the galley (middle window). All major appliances are up on deck now as well.
In the bottom half of the picture you can see 1 of the 2 large deckhead sections, with filon recently added, curing under pressure. (A wee beverage was enjoyed during the wait).
These 2 large deckhead sections, will form the terrace that is forward of the 10 large solar panels.
Once filon had been added to both terrace sections it was time to install the deckhead (roof).
Because the max height of the hangar door wouldn't allow installation inside and subsequent removal of the houseboat, that work had to be done outside.
Here you see me nudging a section of 3 solar panels up into place. Luckily, these solar panel sections are relatively light.
Next week after deckhead installation is complete, we'll work on outfitting the the inside of the houseboat.
