Proof-of-Concept Build
Construction Phase - Week 2
25 September to 1 October 2022
Unfortunately, our agreement for construction space runs out on 1 October when the 4 float planes that winter in the hangar will start returning to their nest.
So while construction is nearly finished, outfitting and internal finishing would take longer than we have left.
As a result, Janet and I have decided to disassemble and prepare the houseboat for storage over the winter.
Had I not sprained my wrist (reducing my productivity) in August, I'm sure we would have finished in accordance with our plans before time ran out.
C'est la vie!
A special shout out to Janet's brother John for graciously allowing us to use his hangar and to persue this dream this year.
Without your support we would never have been able to achieve what we did.
Thank you !
The following images illustrate disassembly of our houseboat and packing for storage.
Disassembly began with the removal of the solar panel and terrace sections.
Here you see the removal of the port side aft solar section of 2 solar panels...
And placement back in the hangar until ready to place on the top of the 'pancake stack' for storage.
Next, the floats were removed and placed back in the hangar until ready to place into storage.
After walls were removed, interior furnature and appliances were removed and readied for storage.
Once all houseboat sections and components were removed, 'pancaking' of each structural section could begin starting with the 4 platform sections.
Here I'm getting ready to add the solar panels to the top of the pancake stack.
Janet and I will finish the inside and outfitting next year. We hope to launch into the Ottawa river for testing during the summer.
Check back in 2023 for images of the finishing of the inside, outfitting, and launch.
